CDS-600D questions.

1. I noticed that all of the internal filters and glass are removed from the front of the sensor and you use a Hoya Clear glass to seal the unit. Are you able to use a (Baader or another brand) UV/IR glass to seal the unit instead of the Hoya clear glass if we do not have a need for full spectrum? This will also minimize the amount of glass that can diminish light transmission and possibly cause internal reflections from bright stars.

Yes, you can choose Baader UV/IR blocking filter option instead Hoya clear filter : +USD 136.00

2. Have you tested the CDS-600D on a very bright star to check for reflections when a 2″ filter is used?

We have the shots of CDS-1100D with VIXEN VISAC tube on arcturus and  you can see the images. The sky condition was pretty fogy and iso400, 180sec exposure.

3. Does the unit come with the camera lens mount or is that an extra charge? Your website says that it is optional.

It’s extra charge and Canon EOS mount adapter is USD42.00.

4. Do you supply the cables and power adapter?

12V 5A adapter and cable included.

5. Is the power adapter an AC to DC converter similar to the one used by Canon? Or does the adapter plug into a DC plug on a portable battery?

It’s a AC(100~220V) to DC12V adapter.

6. A standard Canon AC  Power Adapter outputs 2.0Amps max. I suspect that the camera no longer uses that much power since most of the features like Auto-focus and LCD screen are no longer used. The CDS-600D uses 3.6Amps max as stated on your website. How many Amps does the cooler itself use?

About 2.4~2.7 Amps needed for CDS-600D & 1100D’s  TEC tooling modules including fan.

7. When placing an order, do you take a deposit or do you expect payment in full at the time the order is placed.

Full payment needed with order.

8. Do you have a few units in stock or are they made to order?

Currently standard delivery of CDS-1100D, CDS-600D is 3weeks.

How would I choose the Baader UV/IR cut filter instead of the Hoya clear glass to seal the unit?

How would I add the extra cost of $136 USD to the shopping cart?

How would I add the extra cost of the EOS lens mount of $42 USD to the shopping cart?

CDS-600D: Baader 2 inch UV/IR Blocking filter installed

Question #1 above was asked to determine if you can exchange/replace the Hoya for a Baader instead. It isn’t meant to be an additional filter added to the Hoya.

Are you using this Baader 2 inch filter to seal the unit as you would with the Hoya clear filter? Or will this screw into the 2″ filter holder making it a second piece of glass?

  5. Ralph
    Ralph says:

Baader UV/IR comes in 50.8 mm Rounds (which are the unmounted bare glass) and 48 mm Mounted filters.

You can mount another 2″ filters( 48mm mount , Deepsky, Light pollution filter etc. ) in front of Baader filter sealed to camera body also.

Does the EOS mount still contain the electronics to recognize which lens is mounted?

I know that Auto-Focus has been removed, but will I still be able to control the focus on my lens through BackyardEOS? Or will I have to focus by hand?

I do not see a photo of the CDS-600D with a 2 inch nose piece. How is the nose piece attached to the camera without the lens mount? Does it screw into the filter holder or is it a custom nose piece that attaches the same way as the lens mount?

Does the cold finger make contact with the CMOS chip or is there some space between the two? In the diagram, it looks like the cold finger is on the PCB.

There’s no mention of warranty for your products. They should probably be posted on the site somewhere. If there is a warranty, what are the terms and conditions?

Do you service the cameras if something goes wrong after some time?

2″ nosepiece (M60 threaded) is combined to mount ring(blue colored) and this mount ring is combined firmly with body housing using M3 screw x 6ea. The filter (Hoya clear filter or Baader 2″ UV/IR blocking filter) is seperated from mount ring and directly combined to body housing with O-ring sealing.

We offers plastic 2″ nosepiece cap.

Cold finger is contacting with CMOS and there is some space to PCB.

We offers 1 year warranty for all new cooled cameras.

When the warranty period(= 1 year) has passed, we provide paid services.

Do we still have the ability to change, create, and save Custom White Balances?

Can we still access Custom Functions like (High ISO noise reduction, Long exposure noise reduction, ISO expansion, Exposure level increments)?

Can we still access video setting like (Video Digital Zoom, Meter timer, Aspect ratio, Grid display, Live View shoot )?

Is the 8GB Flash memory permanently fixed chip or is it just an SD card sealed inside the unit.

What do you do to assure that the sensor is perfectly clean before and after sealing the unit?

Do we still have the ability to change, create, and save Custom White Balances?
Yes, It’s possible in EOS Utility program.

Can we still access Custom Functions like (High ISO noise reduction, Long exposure noise reduction, ISO expansion, Exposure level increments)?
    No

Can we still access video setting like (Video Digital Zoom, Meter timer, Aspect ratio, Grid display, Live View shoot )?
No, Users can access only EOS Utility [Preferences…] menu section.

Is the 8GB Flash memory permanently fixed chip or is it just an SD card sealed inside the unit?
It’s just SD card installed memory slot.

What do you do to assure that the sensor is perfectly clean before and after sealing the unit?
We can’t say as [Perfectly clean] . We assemble the camera in a clean room and check by microscope and finally we take a final test shot before shipping QC. But we expect 2% of shipped products will happen dust problems as former cases of Astro40D~ Astro60D.

    Ralph says:

Since we cannot access custom features through EOS Utilities, do you make the necessary setting changes before you dismantle the camera?

High ISO Noise Reduction = OFF
    ISO Expansion = ON
Long Exposure Noise Reduction = OFF

    JPEG Quality = 10

If you have made these setting changes, does it remain after disassembly and reassembly into the new case?

I have placed an order for the CDS-600D. If you are able to set these features prior to disassembling the camera, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hello:

With the new EOS camera mount design, what is the sensor to camera mount distance? It was stated as 43.5 mm with the previous EOS mount.

Also, what is the distance for the sensor to the mounting ring?
